Master Light, Master Photography: The Power of LumiQuest Softbox Accessories

Lighting is everything in photography. Whether you’re capturing portraits, events or creative editorial shots, how you shape and control light directly impacts your final image. That’s where LumiQuest softbox accessories shine — designed to be ultra-lightweight, easy to carry and simple to use, these speedlight modifiers give you professional-quality lighting wherever you go.

Why Choose LumiQuest Light Modifiers?

LumiQuest speedlight softboxes and bounce devices follow fundamental principles of light, ensuring better photos every time. These products enhance light quality by enlarging the light source for softer shadows.

The best flash diffuser is the one you actually bring with you and use. All LumiQuest softboxes and flash diffusers fold flat and are so lightweight that you’ll barely notice them in your bag. Plus LumiQuest stands by their products — if they don’t last, they’ll replace them!

Softening Shadows

When selecting small light modifiers, logic is key. Understanding how a flash diffuser modifies light will help you make the best choice for your needs.

A primary objective of modifying flash is to create softer shadows. The softness of a shadow is determined by the size of the light source. Small, high-intensity flash units produce harsh, unattractive shadows. LumiQuest diffusers soften shadows by either refracting light through a translucent material (softboxes and shoot-through umbrellas) or bouncing light off a larger surface (bounce cards, walls, ceilings, and umbrellas).

A common misconception is that simply spreading light over a wider area softens shadows. That’s incorrect — you must enlarge the light source to create softer shadows.

My Favourite LumiQuest Speedlight Accessories

SoftBox III

Approximately 20 times the size of the flash head for noticeably softer lighting. Softbox III is best for reducing harsh shadows while keeping on-camera flash usability. And it ships with the industry-leading UltraStrap.

Quik Bounce

LumiQuest: Light Modifiers for Every Situation

For over 30 years, LumiQuest has crafted light modification accessories that bridge the gap between direct flash and large softboxes. Our speedlight modifiers won’t replace your big studio umbrellas, but they offer unmatched portability and versatility.

By utilizing “found” surfaces like walls and ceilings, LumiQuest modifiers allow you to shape light creatively. Plus, every product is designed to minimize light loss and maximize efficiency. And with our unconditional guarantee, you can buy with confidence.

Whether you’re an experienced professional or a new photographer exploring flash photography, LumiQuest has the right light modifier to elevate your images.

LumiQuest in Use

I never use light just from a speedlight. I’ll always use a modifier of some kind as I want my light soft, diffused and controlled. I often have LumiQuest in my bag ready to go because it takes up little space in my bag and it works so well. I’ve used hundreds of different speedlight accessories from dozens of companies and yet I find LumiQuest finds its way onto my speedlights most often. Quik Bounce works so well at events and weddings – I usually have it on one of my two speedlights as I always shoot with two cameras. Softbox III is great as a fill light, such as the intro image, or for product photography. The FXtra colour gels are handy for popping a bit of colour onto a background or as a highlight.

The LumiQuest Ultrastrap fits almost every speedlight on the market and fits snugly – rarely do I have a LumiQuest accessory get knocked off my speedlight but they never fall off, unlike some of the other flash accessories on the market.
