This image was photographed in the blue hour (after sunset) so that the light from the lamp would be visible.
It was a windy evening, and it was also raining. I asked my model to stand on a rock that was just below the surface of the water. I positioned my tripod to ensure that her head did not intersect with the distant shoreline.
I combined two exposures for this image. I photographed a long exposure of 30 seconds to smooth out the ripples in the water, with another image of the model shot at 1/3 second. It would obviously be very difficult for her to hold still for 30 seconds without moving. I used a graduated neutral density filter to reduce highlights in the Sky.
In the final image, it was necessary to edit out some of the shoreline on the left of the shot.

Great photograph. Great idea. The combination of warm light (lamp) and blue hour image work very well.
Thanks so much Cliff!
