The inaugural “Focus on Weston 2019” was an amazing, creative and inspiring day of photography. Presented by West Toronto Photography Group and Revprint Studio 205 and Director Phil Sutherland, “Focus on Weston” will hopefully become an annual event celebrating photography in the Toronto’s west end of Toronto.
A huge heartfelt thank you to our presenters: Fredau Wallace (Working with Models and Creative Photography), Paul Langill (Stylist Talk), Dave Coulson talked about Environmental Visual Communication through photography, Giancarlo Pawelec shared how he tethers with Tether Tools and Leah Denbok, who shared her stories and techniques about creating her latest book “Nowhere to Call Home, Volume 3”. Their talks were insightful, informative and entertaining.
Focus on Weston featured two hands-on workshops with amazing models Charlotte and our Ice Queen Olga, her make-up by Maria Lanza (@laimagen.ca) and stunning outfit by Dianna Dinoble (@starkerscorsetry). Phil Sutherland demonstrated his portraiture techniques and worked with participants so they could capture their own images of the models, using broncolor lighting.
Thanks to the Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) for their generous grant; Artscape Weston Common for hosting us; Black Cat Espresso Bar for the amazing sandwiches & coffee. A big shout out to our sponsors: Studio by House and Astro Lab Studios for your generous support. Of course, the day would not have been possible without our all-important volunteers, who ensured everything ran smoothly: Lisa, Kin and Reanna stuck with us through the entire day to look after everyone!
All the amazing participants who came out for the day to Weston truly made this event exceptional. They donated socks, gloves, hats and cash for “Socks 4 Souls”.
In addition to the seminars, Will Prentice (Brand Manager broncolor Canada) brought the latest and greatest studio equipment for use in the Flex studio lighting workshops. The portraiture workshops featured the impressive Para 222, Scoro 3200 E WiFi powerpacks, Pulso G 3200 lamps, Pulsospot with Optical attachment, Siros 800L monolights, Beauty Dish and Beautybox 65.
The Macro Setup, presented by Tether Tools, featured the new LED F160 continuous lights from broncolor, as well as the latest Tether Tools products to make tethering faster, easier and more efficient. Will was using his Nikon D810 with Tamron 90mm Macro and a Tether Tools signature High Visibility Orange USB3 cable and Tether Boost Pro to connect his laptop, which was sitting on an Aero Master Table on a Rock Solid Low Boy Roller. The 4-Head Crossbar held his camera and a broncolor Picolite with Optical Attachment on the Rock Solid Master Articulating Arm. Will was demonstrating the difference between simple tethering with Adobe Lightroom Classic and the advanced tethering capabilities offered by CaptureOne from PhaseOne.

If Santa is reading, Phil Sutherland would LOVE a broncolor Para 222 for Christmas. It may not fit under the tree!
