Exploring Close to Home

Why not take advantage of the current situation to explore the many attractions that exist within your local region!

For example, I live in the Quebec City area, and the surrounding towns and villages are filled with scenic and historic sites… for an avid photographer, it is a visual delight that rivals any amusement park. I have taken advantage of the opportunity to explore new places and discover many surprising facts about my home territory.

A few days ago, I went for a walk on the Île d’Orléans side of the St. Lawrence River, and discovered some fascinating scenes in Saint-François, where I was very impressed with La Seigneurie de Île d’Orléans.

My photo opp adventure in the region focused on two main themes.

First, I was amazed by the extensive fields of lavender fields. 75,000 flowering plants from mid-July to August 5 transport you directly to Provence. Admission is free for all.

Second, on the opposite side of the street are beautiful gardens that take you away from the noise and bustle of the city. The place is peaceful, with paths juxtaposing statues, ponds, waterfalls and streams. Some alleys allow you to get to the banks of the St. Lawrence River, picnic tables have also been set up. The gardens are divided into five themes:

  • The garden of the five senses invites you to develop touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste by tasting edible flowers directly on the spot. In the opinion of visitors, mustard is the most popular.
  • The fruit garden where you can find: plums, pears, cherries, apricots, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, currants and quinces. All to be tasted on site. And we must not forget the banana tree, the pineapples.
  • The shade garden with three gazebos inviting you to relax.
  • The Zen garden and its Japanese influence.
  • Zen forest, conducive to a gentle introspection.

And why not end the visit with a stop at the shop where you can find all the products derived from lavender.

A beautiful visit to be made at the rhythm of nature.

The entrance fee for the garden tour is $ 20 / person.
