Welcome to the digital age where even modest digital cameras can produce high quality images. Now anyone can take beautiful photographs and videos under any lighting conditions, right? Well, not exactly.
Yes, modern cameras (and even some cell phones) can capture good quality images, but it takes beautiful light to make beautiful pictures. That’s a truism about art, and technology won’t change that. The good news, however, is found in another truism about art: Beautiful light is often simple light.
In this lesson, photographer Ben Clay makes beautiful light using a very simple setup of two continuous lights (StarLite Kits) and a reflector (LitePanel Kit). And because the lighting he used here was continuous, he was able to shoot stills as well as HD Video, which appears at the end of the lesson.
