Hands-on with 9.Solutions
I’ve had a chance to use some of the 9.Solutions gear on jobs and shoots. The first thing you notice, aside from the signature anodized green, is the build quality. 9.Solutions is very well built and most components are CNC-machined metal. There’s a heft to each part that is very tactile.
9.Solutions has some very unique grip solutions, such as their all-metal, CNC clamps which are much stronger than the die-cast clamps from competitors. Even their camera/GoPro mounts are all metal – plus they use a large interface between mounts for extra security. The other feature I loved, compared to the competition, is the El-Bo Arms and Double Joint Arms – they lock in very securely and don’t sag!
Unlike other systems where you can only buy in kits, 9.Solutions is à la carte. Pick the gear you need to create the rig you need, without all the extras that you’ll rarely use. You can pick and choose between 3/8” and 5/8” rod diameters, depending on the gear you need to mount. The clamps work with either size but you do need the correct Gag to hold the rods together.
The C-Pan Arm II (and it’s smaller sibling Mini C-Pan Arm) is one of the coolest rigs I’ve seen yet. It can replicate the movement of a traditional slider or dolly, moving on horizontal axes, or by rotating the camera down 90°, flyover movements. But the magic happens when you rotate the C-Pan Arm! You can do slider movements vertically and/or on angles! The C-Pan arms can even do inward and outward curved motions! The creative opportunities for videographers are endless with this very unique piece of kit.
