The Greater Toronto Council of Camera Clubs www.gtccc.ca (now known as Ontario Council of Camera Clubs) recently held their “Capturing Light and Shadows” Educational Day. This annual event features some great talent who lead workshops and seminars on a variety of topics.
This year’s event, held at the Edward Village Hotel, featured a trade area with support from Amplis Foto www.amplis.com & PHOTONews magazine www.photonews.ca, B3K Digital www.b3kdigital.com, Nikon Canada www.nikon.ca, Panasonic Canada www.panasonic.ca and photoEd Magazine www.photoed.ca
Panasonic Storyteller, Johan Sörensen, ran double duty with his morning keynote “The Use of Light and Lens when Shooting Portraits” and afternoon keynote “Quality of Lighting with Models”. Johan is also a teacher at Humber College www.johanphoto.ca
Studio lighting was provided by broncolor Canada www.bron.ca, featuring the Scoro 3200 S WiFi pack and Siros 800 L monolight.
Johan’s morning talk revolved around choosing the best lens for the image you want to create, and how your lens selection will be affected by the amount of light available. The afternoon session was more workshop – participants were able to photograph our wonderful model, Christina Farina https://www.facebook.com/christina.farina.93
Johan is a master of light control. He demonstrated how a single light in a softbox could be used for maximum effect. He also showed how a stripbox can be added for effect – teaching feathering and fine light control. Participants were able to experience the excellent light quality of the broncolor system.
Brand Manager – broncolor Canada, Will Prentice, was on hand to provide lighting and technical support. He also demonstrated the spectacular PhaseOne XF with the 100MP Trichromatic back www.phaseone.com, provided by B3K Digital.
