I had just received my new Nikkor Z 85mm lens and couldn’t wait to try it out, so I asked my wife if she would model for me for a quick photo shoot. The 85mm has always been one of my favourite lenses for portrait and fashion images and this new Z lens is spectacular with an amazing bokeh. She challenged me to create something in only a 20min setup and 20mins max for the shoot time. Challenge Accepted!
I looked around my studio for something I could shoot shallow depth of field and found a box of bubble wrap. I quickly draped and clamped some bubble wrap strips it to a bar and then I set up my Broncolor lights with a large octabox as my main light and silver reflector below creating a beautiful large catchlight in her eyes. A strip box on the side to give some highlight to her face and hair and another light with a purple gel behind the bubble wrap to create some fun purple spill on her hair and give the bubble wrap some colour and texture.
